key ingredients
Exfoliants (the HARD GRIT)
Coconut shell scrub physically lifts dead skin and smooths rough, thickened patches.
Conditioners + Slip
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride + Coco-Caprylate/Caprate reduce drag for even exfoliation and leave a softer finish – so the scrub can scrub, and your hands feel good after.
Hydration + Conditioning
Glycerine + Propanediol pull water into the skin so it doesn’t feel harsh, tight or stripped while scrubbing. Argan, rosehip, sunflower, coconut oils: add comfort and softness after exfoliation.
Antioxidant Support
Vitamin E (tocopherol): helps protect the oils in the formula.
How to use it
RUB IN
As you work Hard Grit into your hands, focus on calluses and rough patches, be gentle where the skin is thin.
The crushed coconut shell scrubs off built-up dead skin and while the cream supports recovery.
DUST OFF
Dust off the remaining grit with a soft towel.
The cream conditions while you scrub, then leaves a light conditioning layer behind.
REPEAT
Repeat 2-4 times per week. Regular use helps prevent splits and keep your hands strong.

Mini FAQ
What is Hard Grit?
Hard Grit is a dual-action rock climbing hand cream designed to exfoliate and hydrate simultaneously. It uses crushed coconut shells to remove dead skin and climbing grime, allowing the recovery cream to penetrate deeper into the skin for faster healing.
Our formula achieves recovery through a specific two-stage sequence:
- Preparation: Physical exfoliation smooths the jagged edges of calluses and strips away dead skin, dirt and grime.
- Absorption: By clearing this surface "grain," the conditioning cream gains unblocked access to the skin layers, allowing for deep hydration and the maintenance of skin elasticity.
How does Hard Grit help recovery?
Standard balms sit on top of dead skin, Hard Grit is different as it clears the "barrier" of calloused, dirty and dry skin first. This ensures the active conditioning ingredients reach the fresh skin layers, reducing the risk of "flappers" and skin splits.
Can I use Hard Grit between sends when climbing?
Probably not the best idea!
Hard Grit is designed as a post-session recovery cream. Because it removes dead skin and provides deep hydration, it is best used after climbing to prep your hands for your next session.
Is Hard Grit just for climbers?
Hard Grit has been formulated just for climbers, but that doesn't mean it'll only work for climbers!
Hard Grit also works fantastically for Arborists, Ropes Access, Gardeners, Landscapers, CrossFitters, Weightlifters, Mechanics, Engineers, anyone whose hands face extreme daily friction, chalk, dirt, grease or grime.
It helps maintain skin suppleness and prevents the deep drying and cracking associated with professional rope work.
How is Hard Grit is different to what's already available?
Hard Grit vs. Traditional Balms
Most balms are wax-based and seal moisture in. Hard Grit is a recovery cream that first cleans the skin via exfoliation allowing freer access to the cream to facilitate repair.
Hard Grit vs. Rhino Skin
Rhino has a great array of skin care for a variety of skin types that we envy ourselves and will seek to contend with in time!
Hard Grit provides physical exfoliation (crushed coconut shells) to "reset" the skin surface. This isn't provided by anyone else. This process removes built-up dead skin and deep-seated rope grime that standard balms can’t reach.
