FAQ

The product

What does Hard Grit do?

It’s a two-part, post-session hand treatment. A coconut shell abrasive scrub removes dead, dry, and damaged skin left over from climbing. Then a professionally
formulated conditioning cream treats what’s left.

How do I use it?

After climbing, wash and dry your hands. Leaving a little moisture on your hands can make it feel more slippery and means you can use a bit less.

Apply the scrub and work it in for 30–60 seconds, then brush off any remaining exfoliant and leave the conditioning cream to sink in. It should only take a couple of minutes all up.

Don’t use the scrub on open wounds or raw flappers.

How often should I use it?

Start with a couple of times a week and see how your skin responds. If you’re climbing a lot, you can use it after sessions, but back off if your skin gets a little raw because you’re doing more harm than good at that stage. You’ll find your rhythm quickly.

Will it make my skin too smooth to grip?

It can if you overdo it. This isn’t about polishing your hands. It’s about removing dead, snaggy skin. Start light and adjust.

Can I use it on splits, raw tips, or flappers?

Skip the scrub on anything open or raw. Let it close first, then use the scrub lightly. You can still use the cream on intact skin around it.

Is it basically sandpaper in a tin?

Kind of. The abrasive is there to remove small collections and build-up of dead skin on your hands. If you feel like you need to scrub like you’re stripping paint, you’ll probably need to file or sand first (or Dremel!).

Does it replace a file / pumice / sandpaper block?

For most people, most of the time. You might still knock down a sharp ridge occasionally, but Hard Grit will help.

How is this different from other products?

Most products are good at helping damaged skin heal. Hard Grit takes it a step further by removing dead skin while also applying what helps damaged skin heal. So what remains can heal better, and you’re not climbing on that same dead layer next session.

Can I use Hard Grit and other products together?

Sure, if you feel it’s needed. Hard Grit covers a lot of bases, but not all. Play
around and see what works for you.

Who else would benefit from Hard Grit aside from climbers?

Probably lots of people. If you’ve got rough, dry, or damaged hands from any kind of physical work or training, it’ll do the same job. It’s made for climbers because that’s who we know, but there’s nothing in it that requires a chalk bag.

What does “ready to climb on tomorrow” actually mean?

It means you’re less likely to be climbing on yesterday’s ragged layer. It doesn’t mean your skin regenerates overnight. It means you start cleaner.

How long does a tin last?

It depends how often you climb and how heavy-handed you are. Used normally, it
should last a few months.

Sustainability

You say you commit 1% to carbon and plastic removal. How do I know that's real?

Because it’s verified by an accountant and published publicly every quarter in our Proof of Practice ledger. Not a self reported number, not a pledge. Actual payments to actual schemes. If you want to check it, you can.

What do you mean by “carbon and plastic removal”, exactly?

It’s not “we funded a project that might do something later.” It’s verified removal schemes where carbon and/or plastic is actually taken out of the environment. The specific schemes and transactions are listed in the quarterly ledger.

Every brand says they care about sustainability. Why should I believe you?

Good question. We do, but it’s difficult to prove. We’ll do our best to show it in everything we do.

Túffenup Kids

What is Túffenup Kids?

It’s a program that works with existing organisations to find and support young people who lack stability, opportunity, or a reliable adult in their corner. 5% of every sale is allocated to Túffenup Kids.

When does Túffenup Kids launch?

It’s in development. I’m not going to give you a date I’m not certain of. The 4% allocation is banked from our first sale and shown in the quarterly Proof of Practice ledger.

Where does the Kids money sit right now?

Right now, funds are allocated to a specific Túffenup Kids account within the business. The account is verified by an accountant every quarter to ensure the appropriate value is deposited. Funds will be allocated when they are substantial enough to do so.

What happens to the money if the brand folds?

If the business folds before Túffenup Kids is implemented, any funds allocated to the Túffenup Kids account will be donated to Save the Children.
